Merger with Malvern Health Centre - Message from the GP Partners

We have important and exciting information regarding future changes at Link End Surgery.

As GP Partners of Link End Surgery, we feel a great deal of responsibility to deliver primary care in an efficient manner in an increasingly challenging NHS environment, whilst maintaining a friendly service that provides high quality healthcare. As you may be aware, this has been particularly difficult for us since the retirement of Dr Sefton Fiddian and Dr Smith.

In order to maintain and improve the healthcare provided, we currently looking to merge with a like-minded practice, Malvern Health Centre. Healthcare will still be provided in the same way but with our GPs, Nurses and Reception staff working from Malvern Health Centre’s premises at Prospect View.

Prospect View houses two GP Practices, Malvern Health Centre is the one to the left as you enter the building. You may already be familiar with other services based in this building including podiatry, audiology and diabetic specialist nurses.

We believe a merger will provide the opportunity to improve patient care by

  • Bringing together best practice from both surgeries
  • Increasing patient choice with more GPs and nurses offering expertise in different clinical areas
  • Improving quality of care, with greater availability to a range of appointments which is especially important for our complex and vulnerable patients
  • Offering a greater choice of appointments with early morning, lunchtime, evening and weekend times available
  • Working from purpose built premises with facilities for those with disabilities
  • Maintaining our core values of being a friendly, patient centred practice

As partners in a larger group, we can share out the urgent duty doctor role, allowing us more time for continuity of care and you will be able to specifically request an appointment with us.

We have met with your Patient Participation group who are positive about the merger, particularly due to the similarity in cultures between the two practices. They will be working with us to try and ensure the move is as smooth as possible.

You will NOT need to do anything as all your medical records will be transferred automatically and will be immediately accessible. The process will be as seamless as possible with little disruption to patients apart from your healthcare being available at a different site, under a mile away.

Assuming all runs smoothly with the merger process, our current intention is that Link End patients, doctors and staff will join the Health Centre Team in April 2018.  You may meet members of the Health Centre Team in the meantime as they will be coming to Link End to get to know us better.

We welcome the opportunity to meet with our local community to share our vision and answer any questions you may have regarding the merger. We will be updating information on our website regularly about this change to keep patients as informed as possible.

If you wish to know more about the merger, there will be a meeting at Prospect View on Wednesday 28th February at 7.30pm. It would be helpful for us if you would ring the surgery or email manager.linkend@nhs.net if you are coming.

Finally, we should like to thank you all for your patience and understanding in what has been a very challenging two years. This has been a very difficult decision for us, as it will be the end of an era but we are very optimistic that with your continued support we can take the spirit of Link End with us to our new home.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to do anything?

NO – your records will automatically transfer to our new home. From April onwards, you just need to come and see us at Prospect View instead of current building.

Will I still be able to see Dr Deshpande/Dr Williams/my Nurse/my HCA/my Clinical Pharmacist?

Yes. For the GPs, hopefully more easily because they’ll have to spend less time being on call.

What date is this happening?

It should be 3rd April, straight after Easter. The website will keep you informed to confirm this.

I havn't received a letter telling me about the merger

If you haven't, our apologies. All letters were sent by NHS England from a central office. Please contact the Practice and we can send you a copy

Will the telephone number change?

Not until we move……..and the old number will transfer calls to the new one anyway. After the move, the number will be 01684 584050.

Will there be a name change?

We don’t know yet – we might all come under the Malvern Health Centre banner but it depends on NHS England protocols for mergers.

How will appointments work/what time will you be open?

After the merger, there’ll be lots of different types of appointment available. Phone, face to face, triage, with a pharmacist, with a nurse practitioner. There’ll be a mix of appointments to book on the day and book ahead. We think we’ll be open from 0730 each day and on Saturday mornings.

Will I Still see the same faces?

Yes everyone from here will be at our new home. Mixed in with others of course.

I’m going to lose the small practice feel.

We understand some people will feel this way. More and more GP practices around the country are working together and merging – more than 200 in the last 12 months alone. That said, the two practices share very similar cultures of prioritizing good care for patients. The merger simply wouldn’t be possible if the two practices weren’t similar in the first place and you’ll be seeing all the familiar faces in our new home.

Where is Prospect View?

It’s less than a mile away. The building is at the roundabout on Pickersleigh Road. There’s a pharmacy at the front. Malvern Health Centre is in front to the left as you enter the building. There are other services based there, including a different GP surgery to the right. There’s a big car park for about 100 cars (including disabled parking) and bus stops in front of the building.

Do I have to change the pharmacy I use?
